Tabs and the multi-table workspace

Open several tables at once, each in its own tab with isolated query state, pagination and view mode. Switch, close and navigate with the keyboard.

How tabs work

Clicking a table in the sidebar opens it in a tab. Each tab is a self-contained workspace: it remembers which connection it was opened under, runs its own queries and keeps its own results. You can jump between Orders, Users and Sessions without losing a filter or a page position in any of them.

Tabs for three tables. The active tab drives the info bar, toolbar and results.

The tab bar sits above the data area and shows the table name with a close button. When a name is long, it is truncated and the full name appears on hover. The bar scrolls horizontally when you have more tabs than fit on screen. If a table already has a tab, clicking it again simply switches to that tab.

When a tab opens, DynamoOps describes the table, fills the Query form with the key schema and runs an initial Scan of the first page. There is no confirmation step, so opening a very large table is safe but will consume one page of read capacity.

What each tab remembers

Kept per tabShared across tabs
Connection snapshot (region, profile, endpoint, environment tag)Column sort direction
Loaded items and discovered columnsColumn widths (keyed by column name)
Query mode (Scan, Query or SQL) and every field value in the Filters panelRow selection (cleared when you switch tables)
Current page and the chain of page keys for navigationJSON vs DynamoDB JSON display format
Filters panel open or closedTheme, query history, cost tracker
View mode (Table, JSON or Chart)
The in-results filter text
Tabs are not persisted
Tabs live in memory for the current session. They are all closed when you disconnect, switch connection, log out or quit the app. Saved profiles get you back to the account in one click; query history gets you back to the query.

Switching and closing

  • Click a tab to switch. Click its ✕ to close it.
  • ⌘+] and ⌘+[ move to the next and previous tab, wrapping around at the ends.
  • ⌘+W closes the active tab. Focus moves to the tab on its left, or to the first tab.
  • Closing the last tab returns to the welcome screen and hides the toolbar.

If a query finishes while you are on another tab, its results are stored in the background tab and shown when you return. Errors on background tabs are dropped silently so they do not interrupt your work.

Tabs cannot be renamed, pinned or reordered by dragging. There is one tab per table name, so two connections with identically named tables cannot be open side by side.
