Item version history

Every save through the item editor keeps a local snapshot of the previous version. Browse versions, see a field-by-field diff against the current item and restore any of them.

What gets recorded

Each time you click Save Item in the item editor, DynamoOps stores the item exactly as it was before that save. This includes saves that started from Clone or from Restore. Snapshots are kept on your machine, with no auxiliary table or backend involved.

  • Up to 20 versions per item, newest first. Older versions are dropped.
  • Keyed by table name and primary key, so the same table name in two accounts shares history.
  • If local storage runs out of space, the oldest half of all snapshots is purged automatically.

Browsing versions

Click 🕐 on a row in the table view. The Version History dialog has two columns.

Saved versions on the left, a field-by-field diff against the current item on the right.
  • Saved versions — each entry shows its timestamp, the newest is tagged “latest”, and a summary such as “3 changes” or “no changes from current” compares it with the item as it is now.
  • Diff — one row per top-level attribute with the saved value on the left and the current value on the right. Added, removed and modified attributes are colour-coded; a dash marks an attribute absent on one side. Nested values are compared as whole JSON blocks.

The most recent version is selected automatically when the dialog opens.

Restoring a version

Select a version and click Restore this version. DynamoOps opens the item editor pre-filled with that snapshot. Nothing is written until you click Save Item, which first snapshots the current item so the restore itself is reversible.

Tip
Need an audit trail that survives reinstalls or is shared with the team? Pair Version History with DynamoDB Streams, which records every change at the table level.
