Charts and partition heatmap

Turn the loaded page into a timeline, a numeric distribution or a partition-key heatmap that flags potential hot partitions, with no extra queries.

Opening Chart view

Select 📊 Chart in the view toggle. Three sub-tabs appear: Timeline, Distribution and Heatmap. Charts are rendered as inline SVG from the items currently loaded in the tab, so they update whenever you run a query, change page or resize the window. The view is remembered per tab.

Loaded page only
Charts describe the page you have loaded, not the whole table. Increase Page Size or narrow the query to make the sample representative.

Timeline

A bar chart of item counts per time bucket. Pick the date field and a granularity of hour, day or month. DynamoOps detects candidate date fields by sampling the first 50 items for strings that parse as dates.

Orders per day from the loaded page.
  • Buckets are labelled YYYY-MM-DD HHh, YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM and sorted chronologically.
  • If no field parses as a date, the selector reads “No date field found”.

Distribution

A histogram of a numeric field in 12 equal-width bins between the minimum and maximum, with a stats row showing Min, Max, Avg and the sample size. Numeric fields are detected when every sampled value is a number or a numeric string.

A histogram of order totals with min, max and average.

Partition heatmap

The heatmap counts loaded items per partition-key value and renders the top 50 as coloured cells, from indigo for small counts through amber to red for the largest. Each cell shows the key, the count and, on hover, its share of the loaded items.

The heatmap makes skew obvious: one customer holds far more items than the rest.
SignalMeaning
Cell colourAmber above 40% of the largest count, red above 70%
Hot partition warningShown when any single key holds more than 20% of the loaded items
“Showing top 50 of N unique values”The page has more distinct keys than cells

Use it to spot skewed access patterns before they become throttling. Confirm suspicions with the throttle metrics in the Table Dashboard.
