License
DynamoOps is free for everyone and its source code is public under the MIT + Commons Clause license. Here is what you can and cannot do with it.
Summary
DynamoOps is distributed under the MIT License with the Commons Clause, plus one additional condition against embedding it in paid products. The full text is in the LICENSE file of the repository; it is the only authoritative version.
- Use DynamoOps for free, personally or at work, including inside for-profit companies.
- Copy, modify and redistribute it, keeping the LICENSE file and the copyright notice.
- Build and run your own installers from the source.
- Sell DynamoOps or charge for a product or service whose value comes from it, including paid hosting, consulting or support.
- Embed DynamoOps, in whole or in part, in a product or service that is sold or licensed for a fee.
Using it at work
Using DynamoOps inside an organization for that organization’s own purposes is explicitly allowed. Your engineers can install it, connect it to production accounts and use every feature without asking anyone for a license. What the license restricts is turning DynamoOps itself into something you sell.
Open source or source-available?
The code is public and free to use, read and change. Because the Commons Clause forbids selling the software, the license does not meet the Open Source Initiative’s definition, so strictly speaking DynamoOps is source-available rather than OSI open source.
